hash.peace Appreciates the Efforts of Religious Rehabilitation Group in Singapore

In Response to Postings by Facebook Page Fikrah Siyasah

hash.peace members and friends (youths and young adults from different age groups and backgrounds) visited the Religious Rehabilitation Group Resource Centre on 22 January 2022. The participants had an opportunity to learn more about the works of RRG to counter the threat of such trends in Singapore.

It is upsetting that negative narratives about the Religious Rehabilitation Group (RRG) have been posted on the Facebook page 'Fikrah Siyasah'. We see this act of Fikrah Siyasah as against the spirit of social cohesion in Singapore. Furthermore, the baseless allegations by Fikrah Siyasah undermine the work by the volunteer members in RRG and disrespect the good intention of rehabilitating radicalised individuals to reintegrate them into society.

As an advocacy group committed to sustainable social harmony, one of hash.peace's mission is to counter threats posed by violent extremism. In Singapore, a collective approach by different stakeholders such as the government, academics, religious leaders, youth volunteers and community groups is adopted to prevent and correct extremist ideologies. In this regard, hash.peace appreciates the efforts by RRG to counsel radicalised individuals.

On several occasions, hash.peace members and friends (youths and young adults from different age groups and backgrounds) have visited the RRG. During such engagements, we have had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and clarify our doubts about violent and non-violent extremism and the works of RRG to counter the threat of such trends in Singapore.

We would urge anyone who genuinely wishes to know about RRG and its purpose in Singapore to visit and engage with them directly. We at hash.peace have found such sessions useful, and we think it will be for anyone who cares about society at large.
